Each ELC staff member plays a critical role in supporting faculty instruction and students on their language learning journey. We’d like to give you the opportunity to get to learn more about them and their part in creating ELC’s welcoming learning environment.
Penny Shanks has worked at ELC for over 3 years. As an Administrative Business Professional, she coordinates finance and HR administration for the ELC and CeLTA, finance for the Language Pod, as well as events for the College of Arts & Letters. Prior to working at MSU, Penny spent 18 years as the Executive Director for a Chamber of Commerce. “I’ve also held many leadership positions in non-profit organizations including Habitat for Humanity and as an unpaid lobbyist for public education,” she says.
When asked what she enjoys the most about working at ELC, Penny says, “Our faculty, staff, and student workers are amazing people, dedicated to the students who attend the ELC.”
Penny currently resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan with her husband and two rescue cats. An avid runner, she has completed 3 full marathons and 25 half-marathons. In her freetime, she enjoys painting with watercolors and photography — see her incredible photos below of the Milky Way!
