In 1968, Governor George Romney and Governor Kinichiro Nozaki established a formal relationship in the hopes of maintaining lasting friendly relationships and promoting mutual understanding of the peoples of the world. Today, Shiga Prefecture and the State of Michigan continue celebrating this Sister-State Agreement.
This year, Governor Taizo Mikazuki continues this tradition by wishing Michiganians a Happy New Year through his heartfelt message here. In the spirit of his greetings, the ELC is pleased to announce that Mr. Yuta Matsubara, the Shiga Visiting Official for this year, will participate in our Online American English and Culture Program. Mr. Matsubara joins a long line of distinguished guests from Shiga Prefecture in ELC programming.
The English Language Center extends best wishes to Governor Mikazuki, Mr. Matsubara, and the people of Shiga Prefecture for a Happy New Year from their sister-state here in the United States.

1968年にミシガン州のミシガン州のジョージ・ロムニー知事と滋賀県の野崎欣一郎知事は、継続的な友好親善と人々の国際理解の醸成を願い、姉妹県州協定を締結しました。それから今日まで、滋賀県とミシガン州のすばらしい関係は続いています。
2021年を迎え、滋賀県の三日月大造知事からミシガン州の皆さんに新年を祝うメッセージ動画（here/こちらをご覧ください）が寄せられました。三日月知事の心のこもったメッセージとともに、ELCから皆さんにうれしいニュースをお知らせします。滋賀県からミシガン州に今年駐在員として赴任した松原勇太さんがELCのOnline American English and Culture Programに参加することとなりました。これまでも多くの滋賀県からの特別なゲストを受け入れてきたELCプログラムに松原さんも仲間入りします。
ELCでは姉妹州の友人として、三日月知事をはじめ、松原さん、滋賀県民の皆さんの新しい一年が素晴らしいものとなりますことを心よりお祈り申し上げます。
