With a touch of sadness, but also with best wishes and an interest in what’s to come, we bid farewell to our amazing tech guru of 17 years, Russ Werner! Russ began working for the ELC in 2003 and became the driving force behind the development of multiple systems that included the English Language Center Information System (ELCIS), the Courses, Releases, & Positions System (CRPR), the ELC’s online application system, the Testing Office’s database system, among so many others. In fact, Russ was behind just about every digital development within the ELC. He was also a valued part of multiple units, departments, and programs across CAL during his almost two decades of service. His institutional knowledge was just about as legendary as was his ability to solve nearly any crisis – digital or otherwise. Students, faculty, and staff all have at least one Russ story where they fondly remember something he did that made their lives easier, better, or even just plain smarter.

Russ joins the College of Engineering where he’ll continue to keep multiple servers up and running. While we will miss him dearly, he will continue to help us transition into new areas for data management. He’ll also be a close neighbor where we hope to run into him throughout the academic year. From the ELC faculty, staff, and students, we heartily thank you, Russ, for being our superman for so many years and we wish you the best of luck in your new position.
