The Faculty and Staff at the English Language Center would like to cordially invite you to an Open House in our repurposed spaces in B135, B129, B127 and B125. Our rooms will be open for all to visit on Wednesday, October 1st from 3pm to 5:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to come and see the spaces in person for you or anyone in CAL who may need a space for an event, a workshop, or a student group meeting. During the open house, you will be able to visit each of the rooms, enjoy a smoothie and a cookie (while the goodies last), and learn more about these spaces. If you are unable to visit us that day, please visit us another time, and one of us will be happy to give you a tour.

Background on the repurposed spaces.

Over a year ago, the directors for CeLTA and the ELC began a conversation about unit needs and current office arrangements that led to the development of an agreement to swap office spaces between the two units starting in May of 2025. After a few hectic weeks of moving offices, CeLTA is now on the 2nd floor wing with their main office in B230. The ELC is now in B135 and the ELC faculty took over the old computer labs in B129 and the already reimagined space in B125.

As the summer progressed, the ELC faculty embarked on a space repurposing that has led to the addition of reservable spaces for units, student groups, faculty, and staff across CAL. We now offer 4 spaces to reserve and three smaller office spaces. Most of these spaces contained outdated computers, fixed partitions on moveable desks, and so much accumulation of materials, equipment and furniture. In partnership with the MSU Surplus Store, the ELC faculty filled more than 30 hampers, removed 20 garbage bags, and removed hundreds of partition pieces to create some additional spaces for all kinds of uses. Please visit https://elc.msu.edu/elc-room-reservations/ for more information on reserving these spaces. Our main office is also open daily, so feel free to stop by and work on the community puzzle, read a book in our library corner, watch a game on the BigTenPlus (BIG+) or BigTen Network (BTN), or just relax between your classes and other daily tasks.
