Participants in The Online American English and Culture Program (OAECP), which runs from January 11 – February 5, 2021, are hard at work learning about American history and culture. ELC instructors Patricia Walters and Mark Albee are co-teaching the program, developed by their colleague, Leah Addis, which is comprised of two courses:  Current Events and Oral Skills and U.S. History and Society.

Students learn about the founding of the United States, the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, political parties, and how presidents are elected. Students will use this knowledge to read about and discuss the news of the moment surrounding the January 20th Presidential Inauguration. They will move on to studying diversity and the immigrant ancestry of the American population. The program will conclude with student reflections on what they take away from the course. The ELC looks forward to offering future OAECP programs to participants around the world.
